Design for communities

Design for Communities is launching a program to empower designers to implement innovative low-tech solutions for sustainable development that enhance the well-being of vulnerable households in response to humanitarian needs. Young professionals will become leaders in the field of social design through hands-on experience in human-centered projects. This is a concrete example of how building platforms can reduce costs and sustain impact beyond donor funding.

Beirut Today

Beirut Today, a free, independent news platform, is developing the Arabic content on their website by producing relevant, in-depth critical articles and audiovisual reports, as well as hosting workshops. By doing so, they aim to develop an income generating arm and editorial services to move towards more sustainability.

MMKN

MMKN, in partnership with Sila, is gamifying its academic and para-academic education support program through EdTech. Thanks to the Asfari – Tabadol Creathon Grant they created an MVP that is tested in public schools on students with varying backgrounds. The MVP consists of a sample game aimed at engaging the students with STEM subjects by revisiting sciences and math through a fun lens. MMKN’s model harnessed the skills of more than 2400 volunteers. Their experience would be of value to share with other CSOs. This solution is another example of building platforms with sustained impact on the long term independently from donors.
